Author's synopsis:
“Into the Light” comprises a selection of stories of conversion to Christ. When our ecclesia began in 1976, we took advice about gospel proclamation, and soon had amazing responses. A brother doing a thesis at Uni (on “History of Christadelphians in NZ”) wrote to tell us how remarkable the success was.
The opening story is quite unique. The first Christadelphian came to NZ about 1854. He was a personal friend of Brother John Thomas and his letters to JT were published in JT’s Magazine. Brother (Dr) Samuel George-Hayes, registered as surgeon-general, began a small ecclesia in Wellington. Most people do not know about this.
Over the years, I have collected several stories from other areas. There is the account of the Truth coming to Bougainville (PNG) and Newfoundland. A number of the stories are written by those who were converted, such as David Bailey (author of “The Wonder of Forgiveness”). There are several stories from Invercargill.
As the religious background of our society has dwindled, I came up with what I call “conversational preaching” which helps us to ‘drop a little seed’. As far as I can tell, we were the only ecclesia in Australasia that did a special lecture series on the Catholic Church to mark the visit of Pope John Paul II in Nov 1986. There were 12 baptisms from this alone.
